Anthony Mangnall selected as Conservative
 Parliamentary candidate for Totnes

A government special adviser and passionate conservationist has been selected as the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for the Totnes constituency.

Anthony Mangnall has been tasked with winning the seat from independent MP Dr Sarah Wollaston at the next general election.

He was chosen by members of Totnes Constituency Conservative Association (TCCA) at a selection meeting at Totnes Civic Hall this evening (Saturday).

Anthony’s priorities include increasing opportunities for people of all backgrounds, supporting local businesses and communities, boosting the regional economy via the tourism, retail, agriculture and fishing industries and protecting the environment.

He said: “This is a diverse and vibrant constituency with so much to offer and, working with the Conservative team locally, I plan to use my experience in business, government and campaigning to regain the seat so I can work hard for local people, irrespective of their political views.

“I’m really excited and proud to be selected and I can’t wait to start knocking on doors, meeting local people and listening to their concerns.”

John Smith, TCCA chairman, said: “We had a strong field of candidates to choose from, having received over 50 applications, and Anthony stood out with his energy, enthusiasm and commitment.

“Anthony comes to us with a good campaigning background and a strong record of personal and political achievement.

“Supported by the hard work of our members, he has the ability to be a great champion for the Totnes constituency and local residents.

“The majority of voters in Totnes voted for a Conservative MP in 2017 and many feel badly let down and disappointed by Sarah Wollaston’s flip-flopping record.

“We look forward to working closely with Anthony to return him as our next MP – willing and able to support a Conservative manifesto and government.”

Anthony has worked as an adviser to former Foreign Secretary Lord Hague and for brokerage firms in London and Singapore, negotiating deals and developing commercial relationships.

He currently works as a government special adviser, covering international trade, business development and regional growth initiatives.

Kevin Foster, MP for the neighboring Torbay constituency, said: “Anthony is an exceptional talent who will make an excellent candidate for Totnes, giving residents a powerful national voice with strong local connections.

“I look forward to working with him to the benefit of all South Devon’s residents on the issues which count, such as improved rail networks, better NHS services, supporting and protecting our local fire services, providing much-needed homes, job creation and protecting the most vulnerable in our community.

“I have worked with Anthony before and seen first-hand his determination to get things done and make a difference.

“He will now bring these talents to ensuring the Totnes constituency will once more have a Conservative voice at Westminster and a government which can deliver for local people.”
