Paignton residents are pictured today celebrating the return of a bench on Winner Hill Road.
Lynn Alford-Burow alerted her local Councillors Ian Doggett and Adrian Sanders when workmen removed the bench from outside her home on Winner Hill Road.
She started a petition for the return of the bench that hundreds of residents who walk the steep section of the hill and use the bench to take a breather on their way home signed.
The petition was presented to the Council by Cllrs Doggett and Sanders and the subject was brought up in the Clifton with Maidenway Ward Partnership where residents endorsed the petition.
Ward Cllr Ian Doggett commented: “There are a number of lessons to be learned and Council Officers have acknowledged that in future ward Councillors will be alerted to proposed bench removals so they can be challenged.”
His Liberal Democrat colleague, Cllr Adrian Sanders, added: “This is second time this bench has been removed for no obvious reason, but thanks to the actions of residents we can celebrate its return.”
