Britannia Royal Naval College Open Day Saturday 27 July 2019

Britannia Royal Naval College welcomes you to an exciting day of demonstrations and activities laid on by serving members of the Royal Navy and the local community surrounding Dartmouth. Guests will be able to look around the world-renowned building and learn about the history of the College and its Royal connections. Against this picturesque backdrop, visitors will witness the Royal Marines Band and Military Wives Choir live, alongside a club and cutlass display by the Training Ship Dartmouth Sea Cadets.

Providing an insight into the running of the College today, current cadets under training will conduct an Initial Military Fitness routine as well as Ceremonial Marching practice. Royal Marines of 42 Commando will also be on hand to provide information on what it means to wear the much-coveted Green Beret. The DCC Police, Devon and Somerset Fire Brigade and RNLI will also be available to explain their part in keeping us safe at home. You can also try your hand at our state-of-the-art Bridge Simulator and drive a Type 45 Destroyer or even the HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Guests will also be able to visit the River Dart and step on-board the Hindostan, a decommissioned Minesweeper that is moored at Sandquay and is now used for cadet training. You will also be able to take a tour of the river on small boats crewed by the cadets and see Dartmouth from a whole new perspective.

You can also expect to see a helicopter from the Fleet Air Arm, a falconry display and bell ringing performance. Get your fast car fix with H R Owen and West Country Ferraris, or perhaps check out something a little steadier with our fleet of Vintage Tractors and classic cars. Meanwhile a selection of craft stalls will be present selling locally-sourced goods, and for the young aspiring sailors among us there will also be a face painting stand, alpaca petting and a bouncy castle!

Admission is free, with food and drink available for purchase on the day. Dedicated parking facilities will be provided at the Townstall Park and Ride (overflow car park) where guests will be able to leave vehicles before a short coach ride down to the College. This service will also be provided free of charge.

This event is being laid on in support of the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity, and we really hope to see you there!
